Me, Myself & I

June Goals

This month I have decided to set myself some goals to help get me back on track. I think I felt a lot healthier mentally when I had a routine and I was enjoying hobbies that I’d loved for years.

Blogging Goals:

Twitter: In June I’d like to find more people to follow over on Twitter, I’ve found it to be such a helpful place full of supportive people. My specific goal is to gain 500 followers: I feel like my following is growing quite slowly but I think 500 followers will be doable.

Blog: I’d like to get to 200 followers here on my blog by the end of June. In just over a month since starting I’ve gained just under 100 followers here, this isn’t a lot by many bloggers standards but as I don’t have a niche, haven’t got a posting schedule and am trying to work it around a 9 to 5 I’m proud of this and very grateful for each and every one of you.

Chats/Trains: I’ve participated in a couple of Twitter chats and comment trains recently and found them to be a lot of fun so I’ve set alarms on my phone for when they take place and my goal for may is to take part in at least one a week.

Projects:

Diamond Painting: I started a diamond painting in the middle May and I’d really like to make sure I finish this so it doesn’t just become another abandoned hobby. Also I mentioned it at work and the girls loved the idea so we all agreed to buy one on pay day and race to see who can finish theirs first!
Research for my Novel Idea: I have had an idea for a novel I want to write for a while now but I get so afraid to tackle it because I know it will be a challenge and complicated to pull off. Well I’m done being so afraid that I’ll fail that I don’t even try, a bad first draft is always better than an unwritten first draft.
Chapter Layouts: Similar to my goal above as well as research I want to at least have a google doc with chapter titles by the end of the month. My younger brother who also writes novels says he finds this to be the best way to complete a novel because instead of stressing out over writing in order you can jump from chapter to chapter depending on where inspiration takes you.

Mental Health

Anxiety After my post on feeling trapped in my own home (here) I’m wanting to challenge myself to get out more this week. I’m going to start small with trips to the shop through the week and I’m hoping to lead up to something bigger by the end of June. I don’t want to give a specific now as I don’t know where I’ll be in the process but the 3 biggest anxiety situations for me are going to the cinema, eating out with someone else and visiting my mum (as this takes 2 buses).
Gratitude Log: I’d really love to start a gratitude log in my journal, something to help me find at least one good thing in each day.
Self Care Sundays: I’d like to get back to having one day a week where I take a time out from technology and just focus on recharging my mental batteries. I plan on filling the days with reading, writing, practising piano, bubble baths, long walks – everything that used to bring me joy.
Personal
21 Days Meat Free: I’ve actually already started this one and I’m about 7 days in. The decision came from a talk I had with my brother and I plan on doing a post on this at some point this month to go into how I found the challenge and what exactly spurred it on.
Reading: I recently finished reading a novel this week and it was the first novel I’d finished since last August! Back in 2016 I was reading at least one book a week, quite often more so it’s been hard not being able to escape between the pages of a good book. I plan on finishing at least one book this month to keep the ball moving.
Walking Roxy More: Part of feeling trapped in my house also means I’ve been shirking my responsibilities with Roxy and passing them to King. King’s been more than happy to take Roxy for walks when I’ve felt a little too drained or too anxious to do it myself but I feel like I need to be a bit more disciplined with myself because when I’m out there I do feel a little better for the fresh air.

May Memories:

END OF JUNE UPDATE (30th June):

Blogging: I only hit one of my 3 goals but I am so over the moon with that. I managed to pass 500 followers on twitter (@KissedDaisy). I’ll be working harder to participate in my chats in July as I started off strong with that goal and I miss it.

Projects: I’m half way through my diamond painting so this won’t be a goal ticked off this month. I am however over the moon to say I’ve done research for my book, set up the chapter headers and I’ve written fairly in depth plan so I should be able to start writing by mid July!

Mental Health: Though I haven’t really succeeded with the goals I set out for the month I feel like I’ve really bounced back from some difficult situations. The road to recovery will never be a straight line so as long as I’m even just half a step ahead of where I was that has to be counted as a win.

Personal: I have now been a vegetarian for over a month now so I completed my challenge and you can find my thoughts here. Thanks to audio books I managed to read 4 books in June so I am really over the moon with that one! You can find my reviews for the books I read in the Book Nook category, let me know if you have any to recommend.
